Hey!
This Past weekend I was involved in the 30 hour famine at my Church. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a bunch of teens who Raise support money for World Vision and then stay up all night and don't eat anything.. for 30 hours. The money goes to starving families in poverty stricken countries. It was a really fun time. After 8 hours you hardly feel anything. I had 4 hours of sleep... which was a lot compared to the rest of the youth group. This Famine though has really just made me think about the Kids in Africa. As part of the Famine, World Vision sent us some clips of the families that they help. Many of the families don't have parents alive and they must find their own food. They grind up tree bark which has no nutritional value to it whatsoever and it takes more calories to grind up then it actually gives when you eat it. I can't imagine. In Canada, we eat when we are full and we say we are starving when we hardly feel hunger pains. We Live in a country who spends more money on trying to lose the weight we put on from the food we eat then we do on Children who have no food to eat. I think it is self-ish and wrong. It really breaks my heart.
During the Famine, My Friend Jonathon started thinking about how we are fasting and yet we are hardly thinking about God. So when he brought this up we announced that we where going to have a prayer meeting (this was at 3:50 in the morning). So about 12 of us just sat in a circle and prayed for 20-25 mins. It was really amazing, some of the thoughts and prayer requests that where brought up where really self less. One guy brought up that we go through this famine thinking about the end of it when we are actually going to eat again... the Kids that are starving don't know when they are going to eat.
Just a thought to close. If we as a nation are soo hungry why don't we fill it up with something that will actually satisfy the hunger, something Rather than food. God wants to fill us up, why aren't we letting him? I'm not saying quit eating.. I'm just saying that we need to listen to God more intently and let him fill us...This goes for more things than food... it may be media, material, substances , etc.
Think about it.

Lanah I just want to encourage you in this area. That was so amazing. That means a whole lot to me. Continue to challenge people like that. I really have been feeling we need to challenge people more about God. Thank you for blogging that. I love ya. Megan
Hey Girlie! Your blog was so amazing! It really is sad how we conintue to stuff our lives with things that don't even matter. Hearing you talk about the kids in Africa was really sad... I can't believe I'll be seeing that in a couple days. I love you Lanah!
